After the Antman controversy, in which the comic made fun of such typical Cornell complaints such as the weather, steep hills, and...curve-busting CyberAsians, students rallied on Ho Plaza not only to protest the comic, but to speak out about racial issues facing the Asian American community.

Friday and Saturday, November 12-13th, 2004
The first ever APA Women's Collegiate Conference began today. Speakers/Facilitators include Helen Zia, Larry Shinagawa, Phoebe Eng, and the "Tampax girl". Entertainment is provided by Vijai Nathan, a South Asian comedian, and the Mango Tribe, an APA women's performance group.

Monday, September 22nd, 2003
APAA has moved its meeting time slightly. We are now meeting at 6pm, rather than 5pm, and will be meeting in Rockefeller 127 (instead of the 4th floor of Rockefeller. This is due to space and time constraints.

We will be discussing these two questions:: "Should Asian Americans be considered a minority at Cornell?", and "Is a minority group defined by numbers or power?"

We will also be discussing HR 333, and Parallax for this fall semester.

Monday, September 8th, 2003
Come to APAA's second meeting of the semester!

We will talk about Proposition 54 (Racial Privacy Initiative) and HR 333 (To Authorize Grants to Asian American Serving Institutions in Higher Education). Proposition 54 should be of particular interest for those of you from California. Please come with opinions...we'd like to get a good discussion going.

We will also start brainstorming for Parallax, Cornell's Asian American magazine. We'll need, ideas, artists, writers, layout designers, etc...so bring your creativity and your talent!

Sunday, September 7th, 2003
On Sunday, August 31st, a number of organizations worked together to pass out a "Guide to Getting Active" throughout residence halls on North Campus. (We also passed out copies at our last APAA meeting.)

This Sunday, September 7th, we will continue to go around the residence halls, meet freshmen, and encourage them to get involved in student organizations. We will canvass with other groups, so it will be a great way to meet new people.

So far, we have passed out over a thousand copies of the "Guide to Getting Active." In addition, we collected about 200 names of students interested in one or more of the issues represented in the guide. This could not be done without the hard work of the 7 student teams who canvassed over 5 dorms. See what a little student organizing can do?

If you and/or your friends would like to help this Sunday, please meet us in the RPCC TV Lounge at 12:30pm. We cannot do this without your help. This will be a great way to work with other groups that have common causes and mutual interests. Help represent APAA!
