AWKWARD: The Event
“AWKWARD: the event” is the kinetic manifestation of AWKWARD Publications’ creative objectives.

It will be an event/ publication. Insofar as it serves as the next edition of the student lifestyle publication AWKWARD, each guest is to be considered as a “print” of this installment. Conceptually, the experiences of each guest will constitute a single issue of this publication.
Borrowing the framework of a conventional fashion show, “AWKWARD: the event” elaborates on the spectacle of transient art to include culinary, auditory, choreographic, literary and cinematographic pleasures. 14 student-written articles are interpreted as fashion by their authors, and subsequently interpreted by a chef and musicians. The event will consist of 14 fashion designs, each accompanied by a corresponding “tasting”(an appetizer), and an original score.
The event will focus on the runway, which will take the shape of a long, wide, dining table. It both functions as a dining table and stages the metaphor for the cognitive “digestion” of the artistic work presented. In the conference room on the sixth floor of the Johnson Museum of Art, the event location, the table stretches the length of the room along the back wall. Guests (those who wish to eat and have purchased tickets beforehand, see below) will sit along one side of the table, with the wall of windows overlooking Lake Cayuga serving as the backdrop for the catwalk. Dinner guests will be served 14 tastings designed by Dewitt Café especially for the event. Each tasting is hand crafted according to the artistic specifications of the event’s featured fashion designers. Similarly, an original score is composed according to those same artistic specifications and performed live. As the models walk down the table at which the guests are seated, each of the 14 tastings is eaten in sync with its corresponding design, to the tune of it’s corresponding overture. AWKWARD: the event delivers with luxurious fastidiousness the artistic statement of each featured designer, by transcending visual perception and appealing to every guest’s inner audile and secret gourmand.
Additionally, we will document the event in a portfolio, to later present to our major financial and artistic contributors. The portfolio will include copies of promotional material, the original texts written by each designer, a photo of their design, the recipe of the corresponding food. The score for the corresponding music and a CD of the original music composed for “AWKWARD: The Event” will be included in the portfolios.

The show runs on a loop from 7:00 pm until 12:00 am, recurring every hour on the hour.
