Bowling Club League Rules for Fall 2009
- The league will bowl on Monday evenings, for 12 weeks, starting
in September/January and ending in December/May (Note this is during study period). There will be no bowling Mondays that fall during fall break or spring break. Practice will begin at 5:00pm. League play
begins no later than 5:10pm. League play may start earlier ONLY
if each team on the pair of lanes agrees to do so.
- There will be 3 players per team. Teams will play each other according to USBC lane assignments. The remaining weeks of the league will
be position matches (i.e. team rankings will be used to determine
lane assignments). If there is a tie in team rankings, then we
will go by total scratch pins.
- If there is the need for a vacancy bowler, a score of 120 will
be used.
- Prizes will be given for the top 3 teams, as well as top bowlers.
Specific prizes and awards will be chosen no later than the 3rd
week of bowling. Prizes should not cost more than $200 per semester.
- Entering averages will be taken from the player’s previous
semester’s ending average, if they have one. New averages
will be calculated after the second week of bowling (based on
6 games). If a player does not have an average, it will be determined
on the first day of the league using a 3 game series. These averages
will be used to determine handicap retroactively for the 3 games
bowled on this day. Handicap will be 85% of the difference between
a bowler’s average and the scratch score of 220. New averages
will be determined every week.
- Absentee scores will be 10 pins below the bowler’s current
average. If a team of vacants exists, the opposing bowlers must bowl better than 10 pins under their average, combined as a team (i.e. if your team has 3 members, you need to as a team be better than 30 pins under your cumulative average to win against a vacant.
- Team position standings shall be determined on a point basis,
with 2 points awarded for each game won and 1 point for the high
team series in each match. In the event of a tie game, each team
will be awarded 1 point. If the team series is tied, each team
will receive ½ point.
- For a team to win any points during any league games, at least one member of the team must be present. For a team to win total pins, a total of three games needs to be bowled by the combined members of the team. If the requirements are not met, games are forfeiting to the opposing team, regardless of score.
- Pre-bowling (some or all of the games) will be allowed during
either of the club’s practice sessions prior to the Monday
in which the player wants the scores to count. The player must
make the league secretary (or an attending officer) aware of their intent to pre-bowl
and give the scores to either of them. Prior arrangements to prebowl outside of league time must be made with the league secretary.
- A bowler arriving late may enter the game provided 4 frames
have not been completed. In this situation, the bowler will be
able to make up the missed frames. If 4 frames have passed, that
player will receive a blind score for that game but may participate
in the remaining games.
- Records will be kept of each team’s score and ranking
after each week of bowling. This information will be posted on
the bowling club website and will also be available each Tuesday
before the league begins.
- In order to be eligible for individual prizes, players must
have bowled 2/3 of the total games played
- Any rules not explicitly stated here will be adopted from the
official USBC rule book.
