Bowling Club at Cornell

Schedule

Weekly Practices (scroll down for tournament schedule)

The bowling club practices at the bowling alley located in Helen Newman Hall on North Campus. Starting a few weeks into the semester, Mondays are devoted to league play, and Thursdays usually consist of open play, coaching, and club tournaments. Free parking is available in the lot to the west of the building (not likely) or in the lot behind Appel Commons (more likely). Note that parking is only free on weekends and after 5pm on weekdays.

OFFICIAL practice times for 2009-2010 are as follows:
  • Mondays (League) from 5:00pm to 7:00pm
  • Thursdays from 5:00pm to 7:00pm

Tournaments

The bowling club particpates in various intercollegiate tournaments throughout the school year. Dues paying members that participate in league and have the highest averages will be able to qualify for tournaments. Sanctioning for tournaments is paid for by the club and done through USBC Collegiate (formerly CBUSA). It covers your sanctioning for all of USBC (formerly YABA, ABC and WIBC). Beginning in 2006 we are asking members to pay a small fee per tournament ($5/day) to help defray the entry and travel costs.

A tentative listing of the tournaments we will attend during the 2007-2008 season is shown below. We do not have entry forms available on our website available from this year, but most of the tournaments have the same format as last year, so you can click on the tournament name to get that information.

Season: The tournament season generally begins in early October and runs until the end of February. However, there are not tournaments every weekend and we only go to a total of 10 or so each season. The majority of our tournaments are held at other schools as can be seen above, but we do have the Big Red Invitational which takes place on the Cornell campus.

Practices: The tournament team practices together every Friday afternoon for roughly an hour. We understand that many of our members have other commitments so we try to minimize our practice time, but practice is important so we do well at tournaments. Note: the tournament team practice dates are still to be determined.

Costs: The bowling club gets a small allowance from the university each year to attend tournaments. We ask that in addition to dues, members who go to tournaments pay a small fee ($5/day) to help offset costs.

Eligibility: All members of our team must have at least a 2.0 overall GPA and be a full time undergraduate or graduate student. Each person gets 4 years of eligibility, and they need not be consecutive. Undegraduates must take a total of at least 12 credit hours, and graduate students must take a total of at least 6 credit hours.
