About Asia Night 2008: Clash of the Tofus!
Asia Night 2008 will be unlike any other Asia Night
Competition
Game 1: Tofu’s Design League
# of competitors per team: 3 – 4 people + Team Captain (per team)
Each team will be given 2 rolls of toilet paper and a bundle of rope as materials to design an outfit. The outfit would be worn by the team captain. Each outfit will displayed in a fashion show catwalk event on stage and will be judge by the audience. The identity of the teams will be replaced by a random assignment of a set of numbers in order to ensure an impartial judgment from the audience. Audience can vote in favor by raising his/her hand fan with the tofu facing the stage, and disapproval by raising the blank side facing the stage. The outfit with the highest percentage of in favor will win the competition.
Game 2: Do you understand the “words” coming out of my mouth?
# of competitors per team: 2 teams will be combined together, 6 people in total from both
Videos of common sounds, such as the frying of an egg, the flushing of the toilet or the sound of the printer etc. will be prepared before the event date. This game will be conducted in a team by team manner. Each team, except one person, will be escorted out of the atrium. Then one of the prepared video clips will be played on the screen for the audience as well as the single member on stage. The rest of the team will be ask to return on stage one by one. The first member would have to imitate the sound he/she heard from the video, without any physical actions, to the 2nd member. The 2nd member will have to repeat the sound he/she heard from the 1st member to the 3rd member, and so on. The last member on stage will have to guess what that sound is. Points will be deducted accordingly as the number of guesses increase.
Game 3: Trivia
# of competitors per team: 3 people
Team representatives will come up to the stage where tables and chairs will be set up. The MC will ask the questions, and the team to answer correctly the fastest will receive the point(s). The questions will be based on Asian pop-culture, and will preferably be somewhat amusing facts/topics (a la JUSA cultural show). After approximately 10 questions, the competition will enter “Double Jeopardy™” mode. One last question (multiple-choice) will be asked, and each team is given a few seconds to write down what they think the answer is, and how many of their points they want to wager. After time is up, the MC will ask the audience what they think the answer is, and the audience will indicate their choice via the fans that are issued. Finally, the answers and the wagers of the teams are read out, and the actual answer is revealed. The winner will obviously be the team with the most amount of points at the end of the competition.
Game 4: Eating Competition
# of competitors per team: 1 person
The setup should be similar to that of AFKN, in which a long table will be used to seat all the competitors (who are facing the audience). They will each be given a plate/bowl with a pre-determined amount of tofu, and the competition will be to see who finishes their bowl of tofu first. In order to make eating the tofu more difficult, the tofu will be dried! .
