Summer Mission Trips :) Keep praying :)

Halloo kids/family,

This is just a reminder to be praying for all our brothers and sisters who are going on mission trips this summer. Ann is already in Guatemala! and the rest of them are getting their hearts ready and also financial support as they head off in the next few weeks.

SO. here are some things to keep in mind over the summer :)
1. Be praying for these brothers and sisters (Ann, Kat, Anthony, Ronny, Henry, Rachel, Ruth, VK, Tim, Victor, Jefferson and Jessie) for:

  • their hearts to be fully devoted to God
  • to love the people they work with
  • open eyes to see opportunities God has given them
  • for the gospel to be shared and received!
2. Read those prayer letters they emailed/gave you! They wrote them for a reason :) and they want to share their trips with you! and respond to them and also pray about whether God wants you to be financially supporting them!

3. Set up a prayer list for who/what to pray for each day of the week. so you dont feel overwhelmed by how much there is to bring before God :)

I attached the list of prayer requests from May that they shared at the last CBS (which is now very outdated) as a reminder for the things you can still be praying for each of them. Print it and stick it on your wall :)

Keep your walk with God straight this summer, and keep Him at the center! The rest of us also want to hear about how God has been working and loving you when you get back to school next year (whether you go on missions or not this summer).

Much love,
Yvette

[CBS Discipleship] Heart. Soul. Mind. Strength.

06/09/2009 03:01:00 AM
Posted by Kathleen Chang

Dear CBS,

First of all we would like to praise God for leading Kevin and Rachel to accept discipleship ministry for this upcoming school year. They have also graciously allowed us to continue to send out emails for the summer. Please be praying for them as God reveals to them His vision and heart for the ministry and the fellowship for the upcoming school year. Please also be praying for each other, for just because it's summer doesn't mean that our responsibilities as brothers and sisters towards each other should stop. Let's continue to encourage each other and challenge each other throughout these next few months.

Let's take some time to look at this familiar passage:

Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. -Matthew 22:37-38
or the full version:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. - Mark 12:30
While it is something that most of us have heard before, let's examine the specific ways in which God calls us to love Him. But before we even get to that, what does it mean to "Love the Lord your God"? There are many ways to define love, and we could talk all day about it's characteristics, but in this passage a simple definition is enough: we love God when we place Him first in our lives. Now that we know what it means to "Love the Lord your God" we can apply it to all the areas that are written about in Matthew and Mark.

  • Heart - our emotions and feelings. Where does God lie in regards to our innermost being? Do we find ourselves often being upset, frustrated, or discouraged or are we able to find the joy that comes from Christ?
  • Soul - the Holy Spirit that dwells within us. Are we listening to the conscience that is the Holy Spirit? Are we letting Him guide our lives? Or are we fighting back and struggling to keep control over our lives?
  • Mind - our daily thoughts. What's going on in that head of yours? Are we spending that time thinking about God and meditating on his Word or are we getting distracted by the things of this world (tv, games, people...etc.)?
  • Strength - our words and actions. Are we asking God for strength or using our own? Are the things we do glorifying to God? Are we treating our brothers and sisters in a God-glorifying way?
That's a lot of questions there. Let's take some time to reflect on where God is in our lives. Above all, let's pray that God would turn our hearts, souls, minds, and strengths towards Him so that we would glorify Him through them.

Let's be intentional in how we love God and our brothers and sisters as we go our separate ways this summer.

In His love,
Alex and Kathleen.

[CBS] Prayer Requests for CBS and Meditations for the Summer

05/24/2009 12:58:00 AM
Posted by Judy Liang

Dear CBS family!

Henry already sent out a previous email introducing the Servant Team for the 2009-2010 school year, but noted that the prayer coordinator position was still vacant at the time of writing. We are blessed, by God's grace, to announce that the position has been filled. We trust that God's timing with filling in this foundational role on servant team is good and perfect, and that his faithfulness will endure with this team and the future teams to come. So again, to list next year's team:

Coordinators: Eric Yau and Judy Liang
In Reach Ministry: Van Kim Bui and Michael Hwang
Praise Ministry: Richard Kim, Nathan Kwong
Discipleship Ministry: Kevin Yang, Rachel Pang
Evangelism Ministry: Ann Yang, Thomas Tran
Prayer Ministry: Janice Cheong

As Servant Team, our desire is to serve the fellowship that exists because of Christ and Christ alone. We want a passion for God's glory, and we want to walk humbly in servitude to God and to CBS. The road ahead may not always be easy nor smooth, but it is our desire to walk by faith and hold fast to a true joy in serving. This task at hand is not one that we as humans saved by grace can do alone. Indeed, it will require a dependence on God and on each other, through accountability and intercessory prayer from you that there would be a desire to follow the Spirit's leading and will at all costs. We are young and inexperienced. There will be times when we sin and mess up; sin has its real consequences. It is in those times that we will need to realize God's redeeming grace in all its fullness and glory, doled out vibrantly and liberatingly, so we would be freed from a paralyzing nature of sin and run towards our beloved Father, the true Light. Would you pray for this team, that our desire would be to speak truth in love and act accordingly in different roles to encourage and build up the fellowship towards greater faith through its visions.

Prayer Requests:
As the summer begins, we would like to encourage you to keep CBS in your prayers. Our dependence on God calls for an earnest and fervent desire to pray individually and corporately, and it is something CBS will faithfully and vigilantly need this summer. By God's grace, here are some of the things you can pray for:

  • The Servant Team as ministry leaders, that we would have unity and clarity given through the Spirit and a heart to listen to our Father as we seek the visions for next year
  • The direction of CBS as Servant Team considers changes for the next school year
  • Incoming freshmen, both believers and non-believers, that their hearts would seek Christ our Savior and that they would seek community in Biblically-grounded churches and fellowships
  • Brothers and sisters going on short-term missions this summer
  • Brothers and sisters to experience personal, spiritual growth and dependence on God as their source of joy, and not falter because of physical or spiritual isolation from other CBSers
  • Continued sanctification and conviction of sin and that God would be able to transform powerfully during the summer
  • Brothers and sisters in CBS to hold fast to the Lord and consider ways to serve during the next school year
Bible Studies:
One of the ways that you can serve the fellowship is by co-leading a Bible study next semester (Fall 2009). We encourage you to think and pray about this opportunity even if you feel that you are not called to this role right now. Summer provides more time to study Scripture by reading commentaries, listening to sermons, and meditating on verses. If you are considering serving the fellowship in this way next year or would like to know more about what a Bible study leader does, please e-mail Eric (ety2) and Judy (jhl49), so we can pray for you to discern God's calling for you.

The Summer:
Throughout the summer, our hope and desire is for you to take some time to reflect and be still to what God has been doing in your life. Think upon the things He has revealed and made known to you, and this summer, remember to give Him praise for it all. Let us continue to fight the good fight and seek to earn the crown that lasts forever. This will require meditation, gleaming of His Word, and intentional prayer to make the most of your summer. Let us be clear-minded and above reproach that sin would be resisted and the Devil's approaches thwarted. Let us resist the temptation to despair or allow our emotions to stifle the truth and hope that God has promised us in His Word. Let us continue learning what it means to bring glory to the Father and to live with Christ as our center. Above all, let us live lives in resounding gratitude of what He has done, for the work on the Cross is finished and we have been called the righteousness of God. Let us live this summer with praise and thanksgiving in our hearts for Jesus Christ.

In Christ alone,
Eric and Judy

[CBS] CBS Servant Team 2009-2010

Dear CBS,

We'd like to announce to you the servant team for next year. They are as follow:

Coordinators: Eric Yau and Judy Liang
In Reach Ministry: Van Kim Bui and Michael Hwang
Praise Ministry: Richard Kim, Nathan Kwong
Discipleship Ministry: Kevin Yang, Rachel Pang
Evangelism Ministry: Ann Yang, Thomas Tran

As you may have noticed, we are current missing a leader for the prayer ministry. Eric and Judy will let you know when we know. In the mean time please pray for this ministry. It has historically been a hard ministry to fill, but it is perhaps the most foundational. Please ask God to give us as a fellowship a heart that knows the power of prayer and is faithful in it.

Be safe. Have a good Summer if you are have already gone hope. Camping trip time for the rest of us. Praise be to our gracious God.

your privileged servants,
Henry and Mandy

I've also attached a copy.

print a copy out and stick it on your wall over summer :) these guys need our prayers!

[CBS Discipleship] Prayer Partner Feedback

05/09/2009 12:27:00 PM
Posted by Alex Lee

Dear CBS,

We ask that you fill out this form to help discipleship ministry serve you better next year. It's pretty short, so it shouldn't take that long. Also, if you do not have a prayer partner (yours is graduating, never had one, didn't work out...etc.) we ask that you request one now so that it will speed up the process in the fall. Same thing if you would like a discipler next year.

Link here.

Thanks

FormCBSal this Friday 7pm Phillips 101

Hey CBS,

It's just hit me that this is the last CBS Friday night email-formal or informal- that Mandy and I will ever write. There is actually alot on my heart, and I'm sure on Mandy's as well, that we'd like to say. For me some of it is apologies for failures and faithlessness. I really wish I could have serve you and the Lord more faithfully. There will be plenty of time for us in heaven to remember these things and thank the God whole redeemed it all...

We'd like to invite you to join us Friday night for praise, sharing and prayer. We'll be sharing praise and prayer requests from this past year and committing them to God together as the year draws to a close. It'll be like a normal CBS but different. That's why we call it informal, so that we can randomly change things up. But, Even though the setting is informal-the fellowship isn't cuz As long as two or more people gather is Jesus' name there the HS will be. Right? Right.

As we face our tests this week let's remembered that Jesus has passed the greatest test, and that makes ALL the difference.

"Know then therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations" Deut 7:9

"Consider him who endured such opposition fron sinful men so that you will not grow weary in doing good." Heb 12:3

peaceably,
Henry

[CBS] Planned in Eternity, Displayed in Community: Ephesians! Phillips 203

01/21/2009 09:29:00 PM
Posted by CBS

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It's so very good to be back with everyone.

It is God who sovereignly calls us back here. And it is he who continues to call us into fellowship, with himself and fellowship with each other. So gather again we will. We will sing again, pray again, worship again, hear again, think again, struggle again, sin again, repent again, receive grace again, grow again.

This semester is also different from the last semester. We have never been this way (Joshua 3:4) so we need to keep looking to the Cross again, being sensitive to the Spirit's leading, having faith and seeing God do amazing stuff.

This semester we will be going through Ephesians.

This is a letter written by the apostle Paul to the church at Ephesus, a church that he planted, explaining to them some of the most glorious and foundational truths about God's plan as well as teaching them how to live a holy life pleasing to God. He explains how God had predestined from before the foundation of the world, how we are like adopted children, how Christ reconciled all things to himself, how there should be a group of people that are redeemed, and that these people should live in unity, holy and pleasing before God. These people were the Ephesian church, these people are also us. We will see how God's eternal plan is displayed in true Christian community.

This Friday night Pastor Glenn Richard will be with us again to give us an introduction and an overview to the letter. We welcome you to join us. We especially welcome you if it's been a while since you've been around.

Friday 1/23
7pm Phillips 203

expectantly in Christ,
Henry and Mandy
