Haven’t decided what to do in your spring break yet?
Apply for Spring Break Service Trip to Nicaragua!
Application Deadline: Now, Rolling basis
Trip: March 19, Saturday – March 26, Saturday
Cost: Approximately $800
We are a group of students who will have a volunteer project trip together to La Chureca, Managua, Nicaragua. Nicaragua is the poorest country in the western hemisphere right behind Haiti with more than 79.9% of the population live with less than $2 per day. Our group is visiting the poorest in this poorest nation. You will be transformed and able to reshape your entire perspective on global inequality issues. La Chureca is the biggest city dump in central America and a home to 100 families who live by searching through the garbage. Children usually receive no education(because they have to search the garbage to survive during the time when they were supposed to be in school) and end up in a cycle of passing the poverty to their next generation. We will feed kids in hunger, teach them, and establish more sustainable rescue plan to stop this poverty. We will directly be involved with a NGO who has been working in the community for more than 18 years and ask us no more than the necessary cost for our own project. With this being said, don’t expect to stay in the 5 star hotel with nice beds, get drunk in the night, and etc. You may have to work your ass off. We are inviting any Cornell students who have passion in serving the international community. Please visit our website to know more about our project and an application process. Again, you will have to apply NOW because the deadline for the application has passed already and it’s rolling basis now. The application isn’t so long and it may take you only about 10 minutes. Don’t hesitate to apply because it won’t be a binding selection. Once you are accepted to our program, we will let you know and ask if you wish to continue joining our journey.

Volunteer with the Peace Corps
YOUR SKILLS. OUR JOBS in OVER 75 COUNTRIES.
Peace Corps Volunteers share their technical skills and culture with communities that have requested their help. In return, they gain job and language skills that jumpstart a host of overseas and domestic careers, including positions in the US Foreign Service, US Department of Agriculture, US Forest Service, Centers for Disease Control, the Carter Center, and numerous private and public sector entities, including school districts seeking teachers across the country.
Here are some ways you can prepare yourself for Peace Corps:
* Apply online. Visit www.peacecorps.gov/application to start the online application. We accept applications year-round, and the application process typically takes 9-12 months. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and in good health. Competitive applicants have a college degree and/or applicable experience.
* Attend a Regional Event and speak to a recruiter. Visit www.peacecorps.gov to see a list of events near you (left side-bar), including our online information sessions facilitated by a live recruiter. At Peace Corps events, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and Peace Corps staff members speak about their overseas service and answer your questions about Peace Corps and the application process.
* Research. Visit www.peacecorps.gov to learn more about the types of assignments available for Peace Corps Volunteers and details on the benefits of serving. Peace Corps also has several social networking sites that are good resources to check out. See the links in my signature below.
* Gain more skills and become competitive. While we have programs in many areas, currently, our highest need is for applicants with interest and experience in English teaching, environmental science and agriculture. Gaining at least three months (10 or more hours/month) of English, foreign language or literacy tutoring/teaching experience at the middle school, high school or adult level can make you more competitive for service. We are also looking for applicants with French or Spanish language ability – studying or taking up to Elementary French II or Intermediate Spanish II classes can make you a more competitive applicant.
If you have any questions about Peace Corps service, feel free to contact us at 404.562.3456 or atlinfo@peacecorps.gov. We look forward to speaking with you about Peace Corps in the future!

Volunteer & Learn to Surf on the equator in South America’s Ecuador
A note from Sam Bailey, Founding Director, Eco Surf Volunteers:
Hi ,
I hope this finds you well. I am writing to ask if the volunteer organization I founded could be included in any emails sent to students interested in unique volunteer opportunities.
It is the goal of Eco Surf Volunteers to facilitate opportunities for student-volunteers to impact our global community in positive ways while becoming immersed in foreign cultures.
The 2010 Volunteer Project will consist of groups of 15 college-aged volunteers who will help build new playground equipment from recycled materials and teach local children English through arts and crafts.
Volunteers will also spend half their days surfing. Lessons are offered 2 hours daily to those volunteers with little to no surf experience. Salsa dancing lessons and excursions visiting a local indigenous tribe, rehabilitated mangrove wildlife sanctuary and remote tropical beaches round out the educational adventure.
Currently our North American sponsors include Quiksilver Foundation, Rainbow Sandals, Waterman’s Sunblock, Sticky Bumps Surf Wax, Surfers Journal, and Smartimes Magazine to name a few.
You may like to visit our updated website or take a look at videos, photos, or our Facebook Page.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or requests.
Thank you for your support.
