Noella Major : Human Biology , Health and Society ; Minor: Global Health
College : Human Ecology
Class : 2012
Hometown : Kigali , Rwanda
Noella is an international student from Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. Her future plans include taking a gap year to explore more research opportunities before going on to medical school. She is planning to pursue an MD/PHD dual degree that would facilitate a broader impact when she returns home. Both her parents are health care professionals. Her aspiration to become a physician started early on as she was exposed to this milieu and was inspired by her parents’ effort to improve people’s condition in underprivileged neighborhoods. She has traveled in most of East Africa and has developed a passion for health care in a global setting. This past summer, she did her Global Health field experience in Rwanda where she learned about HIV and infant feeding at two health centers specialized in maternal and pediatric HIV. Noella has developed a real interest in research as she is currently working in Dr. Robin Davisson’s Lab. Her current project involves investigating the molecular pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia in BPH/5 mice, a mouse model developed by Dr. Davisson.

In Noella’s spare time, you might see her serving with Cornell catering at various events on campus. She is also a member of Cornell club basketball and Flora Rose House intramural teams.
