Truxton, NY (on a beautiful land trust 30 mi. from Ithaca)
Escape
the red, white and blue and get out into the green to declare
INDEPENDENCE
FOR ALL OF THE AMERICAS!
For the last two years, solidarity activists and friends gathered from
across NY State on a beautiful cooperative land trust outside Ithaca NY to learn
more about cultural solidarity: Nueva Canción, radical Latin American poetry,
Spanish language lessons, tango and salsa and also to discuss state-wide
coalitions to ward off upcoming free trade agreements and support those who
struggle against neo-liberal US intervention throughout the Americas. The
response has been fantastic and participants unanimously requested an encore
this summer!
This year we're going to do it again, only BIGGER AND BETTER!
This year, we're going to have:
Tango and salsa dance and history lessons by a pro dancer and activist
Nueva Canción
Readings and discussions of our favorite Latin American poets and playwrights
Guest speakers leading mini teach-ins on the current US/Latin American affairs, the plight of farmworkers in NY State, the current situations in Venezuela, El Salvador, Colombia, Haiti, and more
Spanish language lessons in an activist context at 4 different levels: beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
Great veggie cuisine
Hiking, swimming in ponds, camping, bonfires, and a great chance to meet and build relationships with other activists/organizers/good folks!
Film screenings of several great Latin American documentaries
*We’ll be organizing carpools from NYC, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany*
Suggested donation for the 3 day fun-filled activist event is $80-150
sliding scale, including all meals, all sessions, and camping.
