History
After nearly a century of community service, Delta Gamma adopted Service for Sight as its international foundation in 1936. The initial advocacy came from Ruth Billow, a blind member of the fraternity, and to the present day Delta Gammas worldwide dedicate themselves to sight conservation and aid to the blind.
Scholarship
Because of the foundation’s success, the Ruth Billow Memorial Fund has been able to provide scholarships to both visually-impaired members as well as members who pursue careers that aid the visually-impaired.
Campus involvement
Our Chi chapter here at Cornell University has been a leader in community service. Each member must complete five hours of volunteer work per semester. Delta Gammas at Cornell assist in a sundry of projects, from visiting nursing homes to mentoring and tutoring children to distributing information about sight conservation. Our chapter has received many awards for community involvement, the most recent being the 2004-2005 Outstanding Service Award, given by Cornell University.
