Click here for a comprehensive listing of Local
Theatre Groups!
Welcome to the homepage of GETCAST! Our dual purpose is to increase awareness
and respect for the many student-run theatre groups at Cornell, and to
provide more opportunity for attendance and participation in all kinds
of local theatre. Please feel free to read our Charter,
which has a lot of information about the group and describes how it works.
However, if you don't wish to read all that, a brief description follows...
GETCAST is made up of three parts: the general membership, the Steering Committee, and the affiliated student theatre groups.
General Membership.
Being a member means you get announcements on the
listserv. Someday (like, if we ever get money) it
might mean you get benefits such as reduced admission
prices to shows. If you would like to become part
of the general membership, join the listserv GETCAST-L.
This listserv is intended to serve as a unified source
for theatre-related announcements of all kinds: performances,
auditions, play proposals, workshops, elections; searches
for directors, designers, crew or other volunteers;
individual productions' requests for help, and lots
more... You can join by sending the message "subscribe
GETCAST-L Yourfirstname Yourlastname" command to listproc@cornell.edu,
or (if you've never done that before and you're not
sure how) just e-mail getcast@cornell.edu
to be added. Remember, you can unsubscribe at any
time if you find this listserv unsatisfactory.
Steering Committee.
The GETCAST Steering Committee (GSC) determines the group's policies and activities. It is composed of up to eight elected officers and the representatives of all affiliated groups. Because of a relative lack of interest from theatre groups in becoming affiliates in our first year, the GSC has yet to form a cohesive group. However, the structure is sound, and one day GETCAST may become more than just a theatre-announcement listserv. For more information on the GSC, please contact getcast@cornell.edu.
Affiliated Groups.
Note that any theatre group may post annoncements on our listserv, whether
affiliated or not. However, if your student theatre group wishes to become
part of the student theatre coalition, a representative can join the GSC.
So far, we don't have enough affiliates, but the intent for the GSC is
to discuss inter-theatre-group issues such as sharing space, props, and
other resources, as well as determining GETCAST policies and activities.
It is friendly-relations only, no politics -- this group is here to support
all student theatre. To express your interest, just e-mail getcast@cornell.edu.
