Points SystemOverviewThe Golden Key Point System at Cornell University is designed to recognize and reward active members who participate in Golden Key activities. It also offers members the opportunity to earn discounts on honor cords and other honorary items for graduation, and serves as an internal metric for chapter activity. As of Fall 2009, Golden Key members must obtain an average of 6 points per academic school year (Fall semester to Spring Semester) in order to be eligible to purchase and wear an honor cord at graduation for $10. The number of total points required by graduation will depend on how many academic school years are remaining at the time of induction. The table below summarizes the minimum number of points required by members by graduation depending on their class status at date of induction to purchase an honor cord:
Golden Key members that have obtained their respective minimum required points are encouraged to continue their active participation. Please see the table below for points necessary for other honorary items. In addition, the number of Golden Key points will be taken into consideration for end of the year chapter scholarships, future leadership roles, and exclusive events where seating is limited. As of Fall 2009, the Golden Key chapter at Cornell University will no longer be matching points from community service events outside of those hosted or publicized by Golden Key. Points can only be obtained through Cornell Golden Key sponsored events. Golden Key members inducted as Juniors in Fall 2008 will also have to obtain a minimum of 12 points before graduation to purchase an honor cord. Recorded matched points prior to Fall 2009 will be included in the total. Unrecorded community service points will not be retroactively included in the total.
