When: Wednesday, March 16th 10am-4:30pm
Where: Mann Library Lobby
One of our fellow members, Rachel Perlman, will be selling Maasai Jewelry (to support the Kenyan tribe's women and children) in Mann Library Lobby on Wednesday, March 16th. All sales will go back to an organization called Namayiana, which is a cooperative of 100 Maasai tribeswomen. Please visit the following website for more information: http://maasaibeadworks.com/
Golden Key will be providing volunteers for this event. Members will staff the table and sell jewelry to those who walk by, trying to foster interest by explaining what they are selling, where the jewelry comes from, and where the funds are directed. Volunteers will also be in charge of watching the cash box and recording sold items on an inventory list. This will be a laid-back but rewarding experience. Of course, you are also welcome to buy the jewelry yourself if you feel so inclined!
Golden Key members will receive **2 POINTS** for every hour they volunteer. If you would like to participate, please visit the following website to sign-up:
http://doodle.com/z3473rueih2xwyt2

The week before the event, Rachel will email all of the event's volunteers to explain more of the details and to provide a final schedule of when people are volunteering on the 16th. Rachel will also be asking for help a few days prior to the event with making signs, the display for the table, and information cards about the Maasai artisans.

Time: 11:30AM - 2PM (Shift 1) OR 2 - 4:30PM (Shift 2)
Description: PALS is an organization that is currently run by one of our Honorary Members, Cindy van Es. PALS (Partnership between African and Lansing Schools) is hoping to raise about $6,500 for a water tank system for Mbaka Oromo Primary School in western Kenya. Right now, there is one water spigot that brings water from a nearby stream. It doesn't work during the dry months, so for most of the year, there's no fresh water to drink during the day. The water tank system collects rain water run-off from the roofs of classrooms and stores it in a sealed tank, where they can use it when needed. It would be a huge improvement in the quality of life for the kids and teachers! Both Honorary and Undergraduate members are invited to attend. The event will be a large Carnival with games for kids as well as a barbecue. Golden Key will be running its own table during the event.
We are looking for 15 people to work either Shift 1 and/or Shift 2. If you are interested, please e-mail Brett Goldstein (BG83) by Sunday (4/20) with your full name and mobile telephone number. Also include whether you will be able to drive to the event.
You will receive TWO POINTS per hour for attending this service event!
Drivers will receive an additional ONE POINT! |
