Who are the Grace Notes?
We are one of Cornell University's Christian a cappella groups. Through our songs, we hope to convey the Gospel, share about Jesus, and how God has influenced our lives.
What's the Gospel?
The word gospel means "good news." When Christians refer to the gospel, we refer to the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ that's
available because of his death and resurrection to all
who believe in him. The first four books of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are personal accounts of the life of Jesus and the "good news" he brought. They give a complete picture of Jesus' life and teachings.
Who's Jesus?
Jesus was born about 2000 years ago. Over the duration of his life, Jesus went to many lands and proclaimed that he was the son of God and that only through him, could salvation be attained. 'How does that work?' you may ask. When Jesus died, so did our sins with him. When Jesus died, he took all the sins and mistakes in our lives upon himself and made them his own. But because of God's love for his son, Jesus rose again three days later, clean and pure of all our sins, to prove that he is who he claimed to be-- the son of God. And through him, we are also clean and pure of our sins if we acknowledge our need for Jesus in our lives and receive the GRACE that he has given to us.
Why do we sing about this stuff?
Each member of Grace Notes accepts Jesus as our savior and that through him, we know that we have a direct relationship with God. None of us claim to be anywhere near perfect, but we know that in spite of ourselves and the hardships we go through, we can depend on the grace that God offers us. What is grace? It's getting something that you don't deserve. And God definitely offers us all something we don't deserve--salvation from our sins through Jesus. Each of us strives to develop a close relationship with Jesus and follow his teachings as best we can. We sing because we love God. God has had a profound effect in our lives and we wanted to share the good news about our savior with as many as we can.
This is only a tiny tiny part about who the Grace Notes are, who God is, and why we sing for Him. If you have any questions or would like to find out more, please feel free to email any one of us!
