Cornell Gymnastics Club

I've never done gymnastics before, can I still join?

You must have some gymnastics experience to join the competitive club team. To be on the club team, you must have a desire to compete. If you just want to try gymnastics or work out without competing, you can take any of the classes offered by the PE department

Where and when do you practice?

We practice at Finger Lakes Gymnastics Academy (FLGA) tuesdays and thursdays and condition at helen newman dance studio on sundays.

More information about practices can be found here.

Do you have a coach?

We do. We are coached by Dean Altes, the owner of Finger Lakes Gymnastics.

How many competitions are there?

We usually participate in 4-5 meets throughout the year, with the majority of the competitions during the spring semester and ending with NAIGC nationals. Competitions are a fun and relaxed. We compete against other area teams, such as Boston University, Syracuse University, University at Buffalo, University of Pennsylvania, Penn State, and University of Maryland. We also host The Big Red Classic right here at Cornell!

What rules are used during competitions?

Women compete under USA Gymnastics' Junior Olympic Level 9 Requirements with Level 10 bonus rules. Men compete under a modified FIG code which can be found on the NAIGC website.

Does it cost anything?

The dues are $50/semester. Dues help defray some of the costs for travel and lodging expenses when we compete. Competative members are encouraged to buy a warm-up and t-shirts are also available. Members are also expected to participate in fundraisers for the club throughout the year.
