The concert will feature two parts.

In the first part, musical settings of famous Greek poets, including Seferis, Ritsos & Kavvadias, will be featured. The music of the settings is composed by worldwide known Greek composers including Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hatzidakis.

In the second part, we will enjoy Rembetika songs, the "blues of Greece". Rembetika is to Greece what Flamenco is to Spain, Fado to Portugal and Tango to Argentina. It originated during the late 19th century, becoming the folk music of the cities, sung by the social outcast, the criminal and the dispossessed, the so-called "rembetes" and "manges", in the illegal hashish taverns of the urban underground.

Quoting Cornell Professor, Gail Holst-Warhaft from her book The Road to Rembetika: "What was special about the rembetika song was the combination between traditional musical forms of the Eastern Mediterranean and the words of the songs, which dealt with the life of the urban underworld and the less reputable elements of the society."

Internationally renowned, Mikrokosmos, and its lead singer, Grigoris Maninakis guarantee a great evening of music and dancing. Don't miss it!
