What is M.E.Ch.A.?

As the official voice of Chicano/a students at Cornell University, MEChA's main objective is to provide a sense of community and security, building bridges between other Latino and Non-Latino organizations, and increasing the recruiment and retention of Cornell Chicanos/as. MEChA also intends to help the Chicano community develop an understanding of Chicano history, as well as an involvement in current issues. This intent, along with the academic support, cultural events, and recruitment efforts of high school students is meant to inspire success here at Cornell.

M.E.Ch.A. stands for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan. The club was started shortly after the Mexican-American War. A main objective of M.E.Ch.A. is retaining idenity and furthering cultural awarness of Chicanos. The direct definition of chicanos/chicanas is a perosn of Mexican descent born in the United States. A main purpose of Cornell's M.E.Ch.A. chapter is to provide academicand personal support to students in M.E.Ch.A. The M.E.Ch.A. logo is made up of an eagle holding a macahuittle and a stick of dynamite.

Some key phrases in M.E.Ch.A.: M.E.Ch.A.'s moto is "La Union Hace La Fuerza" means Unity Creates Strength; "Fuera De La Raza Nada" means Out of the Race Nothing
