Message from the President
The National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) is a 501 c-3 non-profit
student run organization. Since its founding at Cornell University in 1989,
this professional trade organization has grown from 4 members to over 1000
members. NSMH prides itself on preparing minority students to be leaders in
the hospitality industry. NSMH provides its members with a competitive advantage
through programs and conferences, networking opportunities, scholarships, and
career development services. NSMH is comprised of over 75 chapters at colleges
and universities throughout the United States.
During the 2005-2006 academic year the Cornell Chapter made great strides.
By adopting the mission to emphasize the promotion of diversity and community
outreach, chapter membership increased from 18 to 65 members, whose ethnicities
include: African American, Asian, Native American, Latino, and Caucasian. Through
community involvement we seek to highlight the importance of multiculturalism
in the business world and provide for the professional development of our student
members.
The 2006-2007 academic year promises to be another exciting year. The Chapter
looks to continue growing in numbers while upholding its commitment to diversity.
The Cornell Chapter strives to provide its members with a well rounded experience
through community service and an expanding Professionalism Series. Most importantly
we seek to reconnect with our Alumni in an effort to strengthen the Chapter
and the National Organization as a whole.
We hope that you will continue your visit through the site and that you will
come back often to learn about all the new and exciting developments within
our chapter. This website is a forms of communication to anyone and everyone
who wishes to use it. Please contact us at anytime to learn more about what
the Cornell University Chapter of NSMH is all about.
Thank you,
Diana Rodriguez, Chapter President
