Whether you have past fencing experience or are completely ignorant and curious about Olympic fencing, we encourage you to stop by for a visit.
The Recreational Fencing Club is intended for men and women who are not on the competitive women's and men's teams and are not eligible to attend varsity practice due to NCAA regulations.
It is an open environment where students with experience in fencing share their skills with those with less experience or even no experience at all.
What you put into the club is what you will get out of it. Feel free to come late if you have a conflict with the start of practice. It's okay if you miss our meetings and come when you can.
**If you want to get really good, we suggest that you take a
gym class first, although this is not required. The gym classes at Cornell
are excellent and your instructor would be the varsity coach.
Sign up to receive our mailing at our table at Club Fest on Sunday, August
28, 2011 in Barton Hall after 1pm.
If you cannot make it to Club Fest, send an email to
RecreationalFencingClub@cornell.edu and please include:
1-First and Last name,
2-Sex (male, female),
3-Net ID,
4-Status (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, grad student in department X,
vet student, post doc, etc.),
5-Level of experience (e.g. none, NCAA, private club, "gym class spring
2011", "2 years in HS", etc.),
6-If you have experience, what weapon(s) do you prefer (foil, epee, sabre),
7-Equipment that you own (e.g. "none", "all whites but no mask", "everything
including electric except body cord", etc.)
What do I need to bring to the first meeting?
Wear comfortable clothing. No jeans. Shorts, T-shirt, and clean sneakers
that will not scuff or dirty the floor.
You must print out and bring a waiver of liability specific for our club. It
is different from the one on the RSO website.
You must sign the form in front of one of our officers AT practice, not
before.
Here is a link to download the waiver:
