Brian Clancy | Head Coach, Cornell Sailing

A native of Scituate, Mass., Clancy attended Boston College High School. He was a four-year member of the HWS sailing team. A team captain during his senior season, Clancy helped HWS win two national championships, recorded a second place finish, and three third place finishes at nationals. He competed in four national championship events, leading the Colleges to third place showings in the 2006 and 2007 team race championships. Clancy was named to the ICSA All-America team following his junior season. He joins the Big Red following two seasons as an assistant coach at the U.S. Naval Academy.

After graduating from Hobart with a degree in international relations, Clancy coached youth optimist sailors with the organization LISOT leading up to the 2008 USODA Team Trials. He moved to Annapolis, Md., in 2008 to serve as the assistant coach for the Midshipmen. During his time at Navy, Clancy helped the Mids to six national championships.

While at Cornell, Coach Clancy has already seen Cornell appear in three post-season National Championship Events, a long drought since their last appearance in the mid-1980’s.

Along with coaching Collegiate Sailing, Clancy has coached with some of the top Youth sailors in the US and internationally.  In the past few years you could have seen Brian coaching with the US Sailing Youth Championship events across the country.

Clancy competes on his own sailing on the V15 Team Race circuit competing in the U.S. Team Racing Championship for the Hinman Trophy in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
