Bob Rhea, 2nd dan

Instructor

Bob started training in Shito-ryu karate in 1986. Before moving abroad, he did some of his training under Soke Kuniba himself. He received his Shodan in Shotokan karate in Guyana, South America in 1999, and Nidan in Switzerland in 2001. Bob has also studied several other martial arts and has trained with the Cornell club since 2006. He is a trainee in the instructor training program at the International Shotokan Karate Federation in Philadelphia, PA.

 

Sharon Anderson, 3rd dan

Sharon started Shotokan karate at Amherst, MA under the instruction of Sarah Grimes. Then she moved to Philadelphia, PA, where she was under the tutelage of Teruyuki Okazaki. During her time in Philadelphia she was with the Philadelphia women's kata team, placing second at national level. Later she trained with Doug Luft in Albany, NY under Masataka Mori where she received awards for both individual kata and sparring. She was the instructor of the Shotokan club in 1986. She re-joined the club in the fall of 2002.

 

 

Brian Martinson, 1st dan

Assistant Instructor

Brian started Shotokan karate in St. Cloud, MN in 1979. Since then he practiced in various clubs in the USA and abroad. He joined the Shotokan Karate Club at Cornell in the fall of 2002

 

Anne Carson, 2nd dan

Assistant Instructor

Anne was introduced to Shotokan karate in Pittsburgh, PA in 1970. She joined our club in the spring of 2002.

 

 

Tamas Nagy, 3rd dan

Instructor Emerita

Tamas started Shotokan karate at Yale University in the spring of 1995. He joined the JKA Apalachin Shotokan karate club in the summer of 1997 upon moving to Ithaca, NY. He was practicing simultaneously at Cornell with the members of the Shotokan karate club there, which has undergone a revival starting 2002. He is a trainee in the instructor training program at the International Shotokan Karate Federation in Philadelphia, PA. Tamas received his PhD from Cornell in 2008, and is presently at the University of Georgia.
