Our History

SHRLOE (pronounced “sure low”) was founded in the fall of 2002 at Cornell University by students in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) and the Johnson Graduate School of Management.  These individuals saw the need to bring students together to discuss strategic human resource issues and promote understanding of their impact on organizational effectiveness. Our name reflects that interest - SHRLOE stands for the Strategic Human Resources, Leadership, and Organizational Effectiveness group.

Our Mission

We will be a vital resource of knowledge, development, and support for Cornell graduate students by:

  • Creating a network of diverse individuals drawn from across the Cornell community to provide a forum to exchange cutting edge ideas, information and experience
  • Providing educational and professional development opportunities with compelling speakers, workshops and symposiums
  • Partnering proactively with other groups and key resources such as the ILR School, Johnson School and alumni
  • Initiating opportunities for members to transfer classroom knowledge into real world applications and experiential learning

Our Values
