Anand Chandrasekher

Senior Vice President, Intel & General Manager, Ultra Mobile Group
Intel Corporation





Anand Chandrasekher is Senior Vice president and General Manager of Intel Corporation's Ultra Mobile Group. This group is responsible for low power Intel® architecture products, ultra-mobile PC's and the smart mobile and hand-held market segment. Chandrasekher's responsibilities include strategic direction, platform planning, design, development, marketing and business management for this segment. In this role, Chandrasekher reports directly to Intel’s CEO, Paul Otellini.

Prior to his current assignment, Chandrasekher was Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intel's Sales and Marketing Group; in this capacity, he had responsibility for worldwide sales and marketing operations and served Intel's global customer and market needs.

Previously, Chandrasekher was Vice President and General Manager of the Mobile Platforms Group. Chandrasekher led the team responsible for the architecture, design, development and marketing of Intel's platform solutions for the mobile computing segment. He led the team that delivered Intel's most recent hit—Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology—to the market; and, under his leadership the mobile group became the fastest growing business unit at Intel. He was promoted to Intel Corporate Vice President in 2003.

Prior to his Mobile Platforms Group role, Chandrasekher was Vice President of the Intel Architecture Group and General Manager of the Intel Architecture Marketing Group, where he led strategic planning and marketing activities for Intel's enterprise, mobile and desktop platform products; in this capacity, he was responsible for the launch and ramp of the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor family of products. In 1997, Chandrasekher formed and led Intel's Workstation Platform Group and was its General Manager through 1999; under his leadership, Intel's workstation business grew into a multi-billion dollar business. From 1995 to 1997 he served as Technical Assistant to Craig Barrett, current Intel Chairman.

Chandrasekher earned his bachelor's degree in computer science and a master's degree in engineering from Cornell University. He received an MBA from Cornell's Johnson Graduate School of Management. Chandrasekher remains an active supporter of Cornell's programs and of the American India Foundation; he is an elected member of Cornell's Council of Trustees. He has been with Intel since 1988.

Hope Hughes is a Director in Deloitte’s Human Capital Practice.  Hope specializes in implementing large scale, global strategic change and transformation, which includes leadership alignment, organization readiness, training and communications. 

She has led a number of efforts that have focused on talent management, coaching and leadership development, operating model/organization design, outsourcing/shared services delivery, and risk/regulatory adoption for global financial services clients (such as American Express, Citigroup, and Credit Suisse). 

Prior to joining Deloitte, Hope worked for Xerox Corporation in a number of key leadership positions.  She also taught as the adjunct faculty for Northwestern University's undergraduate leadership course on "Paradigms and Strategies of Leadership".

Jose Irizarry
Vice President, Worldwide Compensation Consulting
American Express

Jose Irizarry is currently the Vice President of Worldwide Compensation Consulting at American Express Company, based out of the Company’s Global Head Quarters in New York.

He leads a 55 person organization across 10 locations globally whose primary focus is to enable American Express' growth objectives through the effective consultation, design, and delivery of its total rewards programs.

Jose's 11 year career with American Express has been characterized by innovation and a strong ability to create solutions that support business priorities and the attraction and retention of talent.  Among the initiatives he has shaped and drive are the redesign and deployment of many business unit and corporate level incentive plans in the arena of sales effectiveness, cross-sell and retention of key talent.  These initiatives have been widely credited with creating stronger linkages between business strategy, employee performance and rewards.

Jose has over thirteen years of compensation consulting experience and holds an undergraduate degree from Cornell’s College of Industrial and Labor Relations. He is also a member of Society for Human Resources Management, World at Work, and the Conference Board Council on Compensation.

Leadership Culture Panelists



Christine Deputy
Vice President, Global Staffing
Starbucks Coffee Company





Christine Deputy is currently the vice president of Global Staffing for Starbucks Coffee Company. This position is her sixth since joining Starbucks.  In this role, Christine is responsible for our overall approach to staffing at Starbucks. 

Starbucks hired Christine in March of 1998, as the zone director of human resources for the Canadian zone.  In this role her focus was ensuring the continuing growth for  Canada, working with the BC market in managing the sensitive labor environment and connecting the corporate hr teams with the Canadian employment environment.

After 9 months in her role in Canada, Christine joined the retail human resources team in Seattle. In this assignment she developed the integrated job profile, performance review and career journey for the store manager position in retail. As well, she supported the Café Starbucks and Circadia locations and provided hr support for the Pasqua acquisition.

Christine’s next assignment was the Zone Partner Resources director for the NW zone.  During her tenure the NW zone grew from 700 stores to over 1500.  She was promoted from that role to vice president of Partner Resources for U.S. stores. 

After a year, Christine accepted the position for vice president of Talent Management, U.S. Business Operations.  In this role, she was responsible for the staffing, learning, compensation, strategy and organization effectiveness groups supporting the U.S. Business operations. 

Formerly, Christine was Vice President, Human Resources, for Thomas Cook Group, the leading international travel and financial services group. She has a wide range of experience in Human Resources with primary focus on the training and organizational development areas. Projects include the development of a curriculum of customer focused training, development of behavioral profiles and implementation of a behavioral interviewing process, introduction of 360 degree feedback at all levels, creation of an international executive development program and the integration of the Marlin Travel group into Thomas Cook.  As well, Christine managed the customer service function and led the role out of a local market management program with the travel and foreign exchange division of Thomas Cook.

Christine is a graduate of the George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Barbara Phillips

Director, Global Talent Planning
Pfizer Inc




Barbara joined Pfizer in November, 2003 after 10 years at American Express Company in several corporate and generalist HR roles that focused on talent management and leadership.  She is responsible for refining Pfizer’s global talent strategy, processes and infrastructure to support the strategic imperative of building the performance potential of all Pfizer colleagues. 

Barbara manages the Pfizer senior leadership team’s global talent and succession planning processes, and partners very closely with leaders of multiple company-wide initiatives (global performance management, global leadership development and diversity & inclusion) to ensure an integrated approach across the company.  Before her career in the corporate world, Barbara managed the operations of two ambulatory medical centers in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Barbara holds a B.A. in Biology from Williams College, and an M.A. in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University.  She also completed the Advanced Organization Development Program sponsored by Columbia. 

Barbara was a member of the Organization Development Network of Greater NY Board of Directors from 1994-1999 and served as President for two of those years.  She is currently Chair of the Conference Board’s Council of Talent Management Executives II.

David Windley
General Manager, Human Resources
Microsoft Corporation



David Windley is a General Manager of Human Resources at Microsoft. His HR team is responsible for driving the HR agenda for the global sales, marketing and services group (SMSG), and supporting all Microsoft employees outside the United States (Canada, EMEA, APAC, LATAM etc)
 
Before joining Microsoft, David was the VP Human Resources for all business units at Intuit (the makers of Quickbooks, Quicken and TurboTax), and previously the VP Human Resources for Silicon Graphics, Inc., where he co-led the HR function. He has lived abroad in Geneva and Singapore supporting the European and Asian regions. David has also held Human Resources management roles in he construction engineering, insurance and software entertainment industries.

David has an MBA from San Francisco State University and BS from San Diego State University.

Dr. Richard Shafer (Panel Moderator)
Associate Dean for Corporate Relations
Johnson Graduate School of Management

Cornell University




Dr. Shafer is Associate Dean for Corporate Relations at the Johnson School at Cornell University. He is a Director at the Center for Organizational Fitness, specializing in working with senior teams on strategy execution, organizational design and change management. Prior to joining Cornell in 1997, he was a partner in Deloitte Consulting with responsibility for a regional change leadership consulting practice. He served as National Director of Human Resources for Deloitte & Touche LLP for 12 years, after holding a variety of senior executive positions at Corning, Inc.

In his various consulting and human resource management roles Dr. Shafer has worked closely with the leadership teams of a variety of corporate and professional firms and non-profit organizations. His role has centered on creating the change strategy for and facilitating large-scale change. Projects have included mergers and acquisitions, starting new businesses, restructuring and reengineering functions, implementing information systems, and launching a variety of innovative human resource programs in areas such as leadership development and the advancement of women.

Dr. Shafer completed his Ph.D. at Cornell’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations in 1997. His research and recent consulting have centered on developing an organizational model for creating agile organizations, built to deal with continuous, unpredictable marketplace change.
